Chapter 523.
The Rivers Base?” Josie Quinn frowned. “What’s the word?”
The messenger handed a formal invitation to Josie.“They say the Base Commander of The Rivers Base has been blessed with a son. He’s invited leaders from all three bases to a banquet.”
“Hah! Anyone brave enough to have kids in this era has some real guts,” Josie said, taking the invitation and opening it.
It read: We cordially invite Ms. Josie Quinn, Chief of Quinshaw Base, to The Rivers Base to attend the Third–Day Celebration for our newborn son.
The specific date and time were listed below.
“We’re going. Of course we’re going!” Josie said with a smile.“This is Felix Fletcher’s way of extending an olive branch. I figured those people at The Rivers Base couldn’t keep playing dumb forever. It looks like they finally can’t sit still anymore.”
“Right? We’ve already done several deals with both The Peaks Base and the Official Base, but The Rivers Base has been incredibly patient the man replied with a laugh.“I’ll go spread the word. Quinshaw Base can’t afford to lose face when we show up.”
Josie nodded.“Good. Go ahead.”
The Official Base and The Peaks Base received invitations as well.
Felix Fletcher was clearly making a statement. He was using the birth of his son as an excuse to get everyone together.
“The Rivers Base has always been arrogant. Aside from essential trades, they rarely interact with us,” Malcolm Monroe told his inner circle.“I he’s suddenly reached out, something major must have happened.”
Malcolm’s subordinate nodded. “I agree. Whatever issue is proving this difficult for The Rivers Base won’t be a minor issue. Regardless of what happens, we shouldn’t agree to anything too easily.”
“My thoughts exactly,” Malcolm said.“If they want the Official Base to help, they need to show some sincerity! It’s either submission or a merger!”
At the same time, the leaders at The Peaks Base were discussing the same topic.
Nadia Neville frowned.“Felix Fletcher usually hates dealing with us. If they didn’t need to buy vegetables and grain from us, they’d prefer to keep their doors shut and live their own little lives. They don’t want any connection to us at all. For them to invite us out of the blue like this is very abnormal.”
“I heard they also invited the people from Quinshaw Base,” a subordinate reported.“Quinshaw Base has already agreed to attend.”
“Oh? Really?” Nadia rubbed her temples.“Josie Quinn is a Tier–7 Super; of course she’s fearless. She’d go anywhere.”
“But if she’s brave enough to go, we certainly are too.”
“We’ll see what The Rivers Base is really up to.
official Base going?”
The subordinate answered, “They are. But it’s unclear what their stance is.”
Nadia let out a cold snort. “Malcolm Monroe is the type who won’t lift a finger unless there’s something in it for him. He’s got plenty of schemes.”
“For now, we’re just guessing. We’ll do the same as the others–wait and see how the situation develops.”
“Yes, ma’am. I’ll go reply to The Rivers Base immediately.”
Meanwhile, inside The Rivers Base.
A group of people sat together, their expressions solemn and their mouths shut tight.
Felix Fletcher looked haggard, sighing repeatedly. He opened his mouth to speak several times but hesitated.
“Base Commander,” someone finally snapped, unable to hold back any longer.“Our base can’t handle this alone. We have to discuss this with the rest of humanity to find a solution. We didn’t want this to happen.”
“Yeah, who could have guessed it would turn out like this?” another muttered. “This is literally driving humanity toward a dead end! Can we even survive if this continues?”
As soon as the words were out, the room went silent again. They just kept sighing, their faces masked in an aura of total despair.
On the day of the banquet.

Josie put on the outfit Kira Sinclair and Winnie Lane had prepared for her.
It wasn’t some luxury evening gown from the old world–Josie hated that kind of thing. Instead, she wore a neutral, formal suit with her long hair styled in a bun.
Lirio and Ivy, as usual, acted as her living ornaments. Everyone had grown used to Josie walking around with a flower and a vine fucked into her hair every day.
“Zane Shaw, you’re coming with me,” Josie said, arranging the duties.“The rest of you stay and guard the base. Don’t pay attention to anyone who comes by to say hello.“”
“Yes, ma’am!” Zane agreed with a wide grin. Being able to accompany Josie was more than enough to make him happy.
