Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1736

After the contract was signed.

Polly returned to Ebony Fox's office and pouted. "Boss, isn't that salary set a bit too high?"

A sparring partner on probation usually only made about ten thousand.

"His family is having a hard time."

Ebony Fox sat at her computer, typing away as she spoke. "He left the industry back then because his child got sick and needed someone to take care of him."

"He's won a lot of awards. If he's willing to swallow his pride and work as a sparring partner for beginners, he must be very desperate for money."

"How do you know so much, Boss?" Polly asked curiously.

"I ran a quick check." Ebony Fox's lips curled slightly. "It seems his son's heart condition has relapsed."

"So, I'll help wherever I can." Ebony Fox paused her typing. "Wayne is just like his name suggests—he's very proud. If I just gave him the money directly, he'd feel his dignity was trampled on and might not accept it."

This method was much better.

She got to offer her help, and he could take the money with a clear conscience.

As for what happened after the probation period...

If he wanted to stay, his salary wouldn't be low.

If he didn't...

Leaving with over a hundred thousand wasn't a bad deal for him either.

"Boss, you really are a good person." Polly stared at Ebony Fox, her admiration for her boss deepening even further.

Ebony Fox offered a faint smile.

"Boss, what do you want to eat for lunch today?" Polly asked.

"The fast food from that one restaurant," Ebony Fox casually replied. It tasted surprisingly similar to what Kurt made.

"Ah?"

Polly hugged her clipboard, looking like she had something to say but was holding back.

"What's wrong?" Ebony Fox looked up at Polly. "If you have something to say, just say it."

"Boss."

Polly's legs went weak, and she half-kneeled in front of Ebony Fox, whispering, "Actually, there is no restaurant delivering the food. All those meals were cooked by Kurt, and he had someone bring them over."

Ebony Fox's body stiffened, her eyelashes fluttering. "What?"

"It was during the time you two were arguing," Polly confessed everything. "He was afraid you were mad and didn't dare say he made them."

"Sometimes he would even sneak into the studio's kitchen to cook, and only leave after the food was done."

"I didn't want to hide it from you either, but..."

"I understand." Ebony Fox listened quietly, then told Polly, "It's fine, you can go back to your work."

"Boss, aren't you mad?" Polly felt incredibly guilty.

"No."
