Maeve gently handed the tearful boy back to his parents.
"The floors are slippery. Keep a close eye on your little one."
The mother nodded repeatedly, her face pale. "I'm so sorry. I took my eyes off him for a second. I didn't mean to cause you any trouble."
The mother was drenched in a cold sweat.
Maeve was heavily pregnant. If her son had crashed into her, it could have triggered a catastrophic accident.
She absolutely could not shoulder the blame for a tragedy like that.
Maeve didn't press the issue. She simply linked her arm through Andres's. "Let's go, honey."
As she walked past Nancy, she left her with a sharp, meaningful smile.
Nancy really never knew when to quit. She had actually tried to weaponize a clueless toddler to cause a miscarriage and kill all three of them.
It was pure, unadulterated venom.
Andres, of course, hadn't missed Nancy's dirty trick either.
If Maeve hadn't been holding his arm, he would have slapped Nancy across the face without a second thought.
"Ah!"
Maeve and Andres hadn't made it far down the hall when a piercing shriek echoed behind them.
Glancing back, they realized things had taken a chaotic turn.
The little boy Nancy had tripped clearly knew exactly who had caused his fall. He knew that awful woman was the culprit.
Immediate revenge was apparently the toddler's motto.
The second Maeve stepped away, the boy charged straight at Nancy, slamming his entire body weight into her.
Caught completely off guard, Nancy lost her balance and crashed hard onto the floor. Her agonizing scream was loud enough to pierce eardrums.
The boy's parents were absolutely horrified.
"Pip, what are you doing?!"
The little boy pointed a small, accusing finger at Nancy. "Mommy, that mean lady tripped me first!"
Landon snapped, "Don't spout nonsense, you brat."
But Pip's little playmate immediately chimed in to back him up.
This time, Nancy truly lost everything in one devastating swoop.
Not only did she lose her baby, but the man she was about to marry was hauled off to jail for murder.
Worse still, the severe complications from the miscarriage pushed Nancy to the brink of death.
The only way the doctors could save her life was to perform a life-saving hysterectomy.
Desperate to keep her daughter alive, Faye had no choice but to sign the surgical consent forms.
After reviewing the hospital's security footage, Pip's family saw clear as day that Nancy had maliciously tripped their son first.
Any lingering guilt they felt instantly vanished, replaced by sheer disgust.
If the Grovers wanted to sue, let them. As long as the courts accepted the case, they were perfectly willing to pay damages.
After all, anyone who could afford this high-end private hospital wasn't exactly short on cash.
So what if she was the heiress of the Grover Group?
She brought this horrific outcome entirely upon herself.
