Nancy pointed a trembling, blood-soaked finger straight at Ryan.
"That little psycho shot me with a slingshot!"
Barton was stunned. It hadn't even been ten minutes, and his son had already caused a catastrophe.
"Ryan! Why would you shoot your aunt?"
Ryan had met Nancy before. Even though they weren't close, they were still blood relatives.
The boy stood his ground, glaring defiantly. "She lied to me! She said if I ran over the bad woman and the baby in her tummy, I'd get a prize! But the bad woman didn't die, and because of it, my mommy got slapped in the face!"
So, when Ryan spotted Nancy in the house, he aimed his slingshot right at her eye in retaliation.
Faye was absolutely livid. She lunged forward and backhanded the boy across the face with explosive force.
The brutal strike sent the five-year-old crashing to the floor.
Barton opened his mouth to defend his son, but the words died in his throat. The sheer horror of the situation paralyzed him.
With no time to waste on punishing the boy, Faye frantically rushed Nancy to the hospital.
But the damage was catastrophic. The steel ball from the slingshot had utterly destroyed Nancy's left eye. The blindness was permanent.
The incident sent shockwaves through the Grover Family, and everyone demanded severe punishment for Ryan.
But Barton had already lost Eva. He absolutely refused to let anything happen to his son.
"Nancy just lost an eye! My son lost his mother! What more do you people want from him?" Barton roared, pushing back against his parents' fury.
"He is my son, and I will discipline him! I want this handled quietly. Do not blow this out of proportion.
"And frankly, this is the Grover estate. Nancy is married now. She shouldn't be running back here every time she has a tantrum. If she had just stayed home and lived a quiet life with Declan, none of this would have happened!
"As for her eye, she can rest up and we'll have Simon figure something out. Medical technology is advanced. She can get a cornea transplant or a glass eye. It's not the end of the world."
A week dragged by.
Screaming in rage, Nancy hurled her phone at the wall, shattering it into pieces.
The commotion drew Ryan, who had been running around the halls. He stopped in the doorway, watching her meltdown with amusement.
Nancy fixed her remaining, bloodshot eye on the boy, her voice venomous. "Get the hell out!"
Ryan pulled a grotesque, mocking face at her. "Daddy says you deserved this! He says all the evil things you did finally caught up to you!"
Nancy's bedroom was on the fourth floor of the sprawling villa.
Since losing her eye, she had refused to return to Declan's house. There was no point; her husband didn't even want to look at her anyway.
Watching this vile, illegitimate brat pull faces and mock her tragedy snapped the last frayed thread of her sanity.
Nancy lunged forward, grabbing Ryan by the collar of his shirt.
"You little bastard," she hissed, her voice dropping to a demonic whisper. "Do you want to know what it feels like to die?"
