Nancy offered a defiant smirk.
"Are you still holding a grudge because I dismembered Charlie?"
She deliberately emphasized the word "dismembered," clearly trying to provoke Maeve.
Maeve hooked her arm around Nancy's shoulder, forcefully yanking her close.
"At this point, do you really think my hatred even matters?"
"Nancy, I am a woman of my word. I told you I would slowly take you apart piece by piece, and I meant it. You are not taking all your organs to hell with you. I have plenty of time to settle our old scores."
Nancy tried to shove Maeve away, but she simply didn't have the strength.
Maeve's hand slid slowly from Nancy's shoulder up to the corner of her eye.
"You have such beautiful eyes, but the venom in them when you look at people makes you incredibly unlikable."
Nancy slapped Maeve's hand away from her face, terrified that Maeve might actually gouge her eyes out on the spot.
After all, Maeve was ruthless enough to have once threatened to rip her heart out with her bare hands.
Maeve chuckled at Nancy's hyper-defensive reaction.
"I didn't realize you were so terrified of me. Just me standing close gives you chills. Did I slap the trauma into you?"
Maeve had never cared about the time or place when she wanted to hit someone.
If she didn't like what she saw, she doled out a beating, regardless of the person's status or background.
Retracting her hand, Maeve gently rested it on her pregnant belly.
"Did you really think you could use a brat with Supermale Syndrome to do your dirty work and kill me?"
"Be careful not to let that fire burn you instead. What goes around comes around. The universe has a funny way of balancing the scales."
Nancy furrowed her brows, stunned that Maeve had completely seen through her little scheme.
Their tense exchange didn't attract much attention from the rest of the room.
Her husband was young, capable, incredibly handsome, and above all, genuinely devoted to her.
Not long ago, when Grover Group used a smear campaign to attack her, Andres had defended her with absolutely flawless precision.
Even though many cursed him behind his back as a ruthless businessman, Andres couldn't have cared less.
His philosophy was simple: If you dare make my wife unhappy, I will ruin all of you. Bring it on!
Out of all the elite socialites attending the charity event tonight, Maeve was the only one whose husband had personally come to pick her up.
Just that simple act of devotion was something none of their husbands could ever manage.
As he walked past Nancy, Andres didn't even spare her a glance.
It was as if Maeve was the only person who existed in his entire world.
Watching Maeve being escorted away under the envious gazes of the room, Nancy lost all desire to stay.
