Maeve deliberately dragged out her words, "Even if I have the cure, why should I help you?"
"Claudia, you should know the grudge between me and the Grover family."
"No matter how saintly I might be, I wouldn't help an enemy for free."
"Besides, anyone who knows me knows I'm no saint. I hold grudges, and I can't stand seeing my enemies do better than me."
Claudia was speechless.
But after her initial speechlessness, she found this side of Maeve very interesting.
She was straightforward, didn't beat around the bush with fake pleasantries, and didn't waste time with meaningless small talk.
If they weren't on opposing sides, Claudia would have loved to be friends with someone like Maeve.
"Maeve, the fact that you agreed to meet me today shows you have some understanding of my situation."
"Even though I'm Barton's wife, our relationship is far from good."
"Anyone in this circle knows that families have to bind themselves through marriage for mutual interests."
"I'm not telling you this to gain your sympathy, but to clarify my stance."
"In your business war with the Grovers, I will remain strictly neutral. I won't take a side."
The Beaumont family behind her wasn't stupid either. They knew what they should and shouldn't do.
Maeve tapped her fingers rhythmically against the table.
"So, are you offering me a declaration of allegiance?"
Claudia thought for a moment. "If you need it, Maeve, I'm willing to offer it."
Maeve stopped tapping and smiled meaningfully.
"Since you are the official, legally wedded wife of the Grover Group's eldest son, you should exercise your rights as the lawful wife at the appropriate time."
If her life was miserable, no one else was allowed to be happy either.
With the company facing so many troubles, Barton didn't want to spark another crisis at such a critical juncture.
After much thought, he gave in.
However, with Eva's educational background and abilities, working as a personal assistant in the CEO's office was a bit of a stretch.
But Eva didn't care. As long as she could stick to Barton's side all day, she was perfectly happy fetching him tea and water.
Everyone working in the CEO's office was Barton's trusted aide, so he wasn't worried about anyone leaking the news to Claudia.
And so, Barton and his homewrecker lived out a shameless office romance.
One day, under the guise of delivering coffee to Barton's office, Eva plopped herself right onto his lap.
To arouse his interest, Eva was wearing a sexy, skin-tight outfit and a pair of black stockings.
