If he slammed into her hard enough, they would both die.
She had promised him that no one would yell at him. In fact, everyone would tell him what a good boy he was.
Furious that his mission was failing, Ryan glared at Naomi and screamed, "You stupid b*tch!"
Naomi wasn't about to take that from a toddler. Just as she stepped forward to scold him, Eva Yeager sprinted into the aisle, frantically looking for her son.
"Ryan! I told you to stay put! Why did you run off?!"
As Eva grabbed her son, she suddenly looked up and locked eyes with Maeve.
"You again?!" she hissed.
Seeing his mother, Ryan immediately burst into fake tears and buried his face in her legs.
"Mommy! Those bad women hit me!" he wailed loudly.
Naomi stepped up to argue, but Maeve yanked her back by the arm.
"Don't. People are watching. If you make a scene, it's going to blow up in our faces," Maeve whispered sharply.
This was the ultimate weapon of a manipulative child.
Because they were small, society reflexively protected them.
Even if the kid had literally tried to commit murder, some self-righteous bystander would always step in and say:
*He's just a little boy! He doesn't know any better! Why can't you just be the bigger person?*
Naomi took a deep breath, reining in her temper.
She had momentarily forgotten that Maeve was currently the most famous woman in the country.
Any public altercation could be spun into a vicious smear campaign.
She absolutely couldn't afford to be a liability to her friend.
Seeing her precious son crying, Eva completely disregarded Maeve's formidable status.
"Maeve Vance, what kind of sick grudge do you have that you'd torture my baby?!"
Eager to turn the crowd into a weapon, Eva frantically played the victim.
"Everyone, look at this! My son is only five years old, and these two grown women just beat him up!"
"This woman here is Maeve Vance! The same woman playing the saint on the news!"
"It's a joke! She abuses toddlers in public! How is she the darling of the internet?!"
Hearing the commotion, a massive crowd of shoppers began swarming the lounge area.
Since they were in the maternity wing, the majority of the onlookers were extremely protective mothers.
Hearing that two adults had attacked a child, the crowd immediately began casting furious, judgmental glares at Maeve and Naomi.
Maeve might have been the hottest topic online, but not everyone recognized her face—especially exhausted moms who spent all their time chasing after kids.
