On the surface, the entire Grover family treated Nancy like royalty.
Her father pampered her, Faye worshipped her, and her brothers indulged their only sister's every whim.
Since she and Luke currently lived under the same roof, they naturally interacted more often than she did with her other brothers.
Luke stood there, staring at her in eerie silence, a flicker of conflicted darkness dancing in his eyes.
Before Nancy could question his strange demeanor, he plastered on a bright smile.
"I just came to check how your hands are healing," he said.
Nancy immediately thought he was losing his mind.
Ever since Maeve had brutalized her hands, the only person who genuinely seemed to care was Faye.
The rest of the family had offered initial sympathies, then promptly forgot she was still in recovery.
Luke's sudden, overly attentive behavior was highly suspicious.
"There's nothing to see. I'm practically healed," she snapped dismissively.
Ignoring her coldness, Luke sat on the edge of her bed and gently took hold of her wrist.
"You're my sister. You got hurt, how could I just stand by and do nothing?"
Despite her vicious temper, Nancy was physically weak. Against her towering brother, she didn't have the strength to pull away.
As he held her wrist, Luke stared at her hands. Seven of her ten fingers were heavily bandaged.
Only three fingers remained untouched, their manicured nails still perfectly intact.
"Luke, why are you acting so weird today?"
Nancy yanked her hand back defensively.
Her wounds were technically healed, but the new nails were only halfway grown in, making her hands look repulsive.
The bandages were purely cosmetic, hiding the hideous damage underneath.
"Luke! If you respect me at all, get the hell out of my room! I told you I want to sleep. Are you deaf?"
Flinching at her furious outburst, a flicker of guilty panic crossed his face.
He was just about to cave and leave when his phone buzzed with a text.
It contained only four chilling words: *You have five minutes.*
Reading the message sent a violent shudder through his entire body.
Instead of walking away, he lunged forward, grabbed Nancy's arm, and viciously dragged her off the bed.
"I came here to check on you. Why are you being such a bitch about it?" he growled.
"Breakfast is ready. Come on, we're going downstairs to eat."
Panic finally pierced through Nancy's annoyance as she realized he was completely unhinged.
"Luke, what the hell is wrong with you? Let me go!"
