Buying My Forever Wife novel Chapter 45

Elena couldn't believe Alaric was still so intensely guarded and unfeeling.

They had known each other for five years, yet their relationship hadn't progressed a single inch.

Everyone in their social circle claimed the CEO of Foster Group was entirely immune to women's charms, but if that were true, how on earth was Stella born? And why had he suddenly let a completely random, beautiful young girl move into his private estate?

She had staked her claim on this man long ago. There was absolutely no way she was letting some nobody steal him out from under her.

Forcing a smile, Elena shifted her focus back to the child. "Stella, sweetie, why don't you let me check your stomach to make sure your digestion is getting better?"

Stella shrank back, refusing to let the woman touch her. "I've been feeling great! I eat lots of food and sleep super well. You just need to make sure my mommy gets better."

"But I need to do a follow-up exam," Elena insisted, reaching out to scoop the child up.

Stella squealed in protest and buried her face in her father's chest.

Shielding his daughter protectively, Alaric shot Elena a look of pure impatience. "I told you to leave. If we need you, someone will call you."

Out of options, Elena finally took the hint and backed out of the room.

She knew Alaric better than anyone—he absolutely despised women who played manipulative games. One wrong move, and she would find herself permanently banned from The Starlight Estate. She needed a new strategy.

Later that evening, Mrs. Gable brought a dinner tray up to Ivy's room, clicking her tongue in motherly concern. "Mrs. Foster, you really have the worst luck lately! If Mr. Foster hadn't found you and carried you home, some creep could have kidnapped you off the street and stolen your kidneys!"

The housekeeper couldn't understand why a newlywed couple would sleep in separate bedrooms and live completely separate lives.

What was the point of getting married? Just for Stella's sake? That seemed like a tragic waste of two beautiful young people.

"Mrs. Gable, what are you talking about?" Ivy's face flushed crimson. She ducked her head in embarrassment. "I know Mr. Foster doesn't like me. I'm not going to force anything, and I definitely don't want to become the kind of clingy woman he despises."

He had already given her so much. What right did she have to demand his affection on top of that?

Mrs. Gable sighed heavily, playfully tapping Ivy on the forehead. "You foolish girl! Don't you understand how men work? Mr. Foster is in his thirties—he is in the prime of his life! If you, his beautiful young wife, won't fulfill his physical needs, why on earth do you think he married you?"

The housekeeper adored Ivy. Despite being the lady of the house, Ivy was incredibly down-to-earth, never treating the staff with anything but the utmost respect. When Alaric was at the office, she would even sneak downstairs to help Mrs. Gable with the chores. She was an absolute angel, and Mrs. Gable desperately wanted to see her and Mr. Foster find true happiness together.
