"Pinky swear, cross my heart, whoever breaks it makes Daddy a rotten egg!"
Uh...
Upon hearing this, Ivy instinctively shot a nervous glance toward Alaric lounging on the sofa.
Alaric had clearly heard it as well. He raised his head to stare at them, a deep frown creasing his forehead.
"Stella, if you two want to make ridiculous promises, leave me out of it."
Stella snapped her head around to glare at her father, lifting her little chin with supreme arrogance.
"I wanted to use Daddy as the punishment! It's your fault Mommy got hurt like this because you didn't take good care of her! It's all your fault!"
Alaric was rendered utterly speechless.
She wasn't wrong; it was entirely his fault.
He truly had no defense.
Ivy couldn't help but laugh at the child's fierce defense.
This was the very first time she had ever witnessed the intimidating Mr. Foster completely silenced and put in his place.
It seemed that in this entire world, the only person capable of keeping Mr. Foster in check was little Stella.
Mr. Foster was clearly entirely at the mercy of his daughter, otherwise, he would never indulge her every whim with such absolute devotion.
A man who loved his child this fiercely had to be a fundamentally good, decent man.
So what could have possibly driven him to divorce Stella's biological mother?
Ivy found herself genuinely burning with curiosity.
Thanks to the relentless, world-class care from the elite medical team, Ivy's recovery progressed at an astonishingly rapid pace.
A month later, she was finally mobile again.
However, the doctors strictly forbade any strenuous physical activity.
Throughout that agonizing month, Stella remained fiercely protective of Ivy, screaming to visit her at the hospital every single day.
And naturally, nearly every single time Stella visited, Alaric was forced to tag along.
During every visit, Alaric would park himself on the distant sofa, practically ignoring Ivy's existence, acting as though his sole purpose on earth was simply dropping his daughter off.
It was as if absolutely nothing regarding Ivy was any of his business.
Yet, despite his icy detachment, Ivy felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude toward him.
After all, Mr. Foster had given her his word: as long as she focused entirely on healing, her position at the hospital would remain completely secure.
Resting her chin on the edge of the bed, Stella blinked her massive, innocent eyes, pouting her little lips in pure confusion.
"Mommy, you're Daddy's wife. Taking care of you is literally his job! Why are you always acting so polite to him?"
Hearing this, Ivy subconsciously shot a panicked look toward the man across the room.
Catching him staring right back at her with an unreadable expression.
Ivy instantly yanked her gaze away and urgently corrected the little girl.
"Even when people are married, no one is ever obligated to serve someone else. It doesn't matter what the relationship is; if someone goes out of their way to do something nice for you, you must always be deeply grateful."
Stella looked half-confused but offered a brilliant smile anyway.
"Well, Mommy saved my life, so that means I have to be grateful to Mommy and treat you like a queen for the rest of my life!"
The sheer intensity of the child's devotion gave Ivy a minor heart attack.
Terrified that Mr. Foster might assume she had brainwashed his child, she frantically scrambled to set the record straight.
"No, sweetie! I only grabbed you out of pure instinct. If I hadn't been there, absolutely anyone else would have done the exact same thing."
But the little girl furiously shook her head, her voice dripping with absolute adoration.
"I don't care! All I know is my Mommy is the greatest person in the whole wide world, and when I grow up, I'm going to be exactly like you!"
