Elena couldn't bear to finish that thought.

Since Ivy's room was on the first floor, she quickly showered, changed, and came to the dining room, taking a seat across from Elena.

Elena leveled a freezing glare at her.

"Did you go jogging with Alaric?"

Ivy shifted her gaze slightly, choosing not to deny it. "Mr. Foster was doing push-ups, and he needed me to time him."

Thank god she wouldn't have to do it again tomorrow.

And she wouldn't be nearly as exhausted.

It was bad enough she had to drag herself to the table, but now she had to deal with the doctor's interrogation.

Ivy was just so tired.

When Ivy rushed to Metropolitan General, she saw doctors swarming around her sister's bed.

Standing outside the ICU, it felt as though her heart was being carved out.

When Parker finally emerged, Ivy's eyes were brimming with tears.

Choking on a sob, she asked, "Parker, why did her condition deteriorate so suddenly? What happened?"

Parker pulled down his surgical mask, his expression grave.

"A lung infection has caused severe oxygen depletion. She needs vasoactive medication to stabilize her. Family members need to monitor her round the clock."

Ivy stumbled back a step but quickly nodded. "Okay. I won't leave her side."

After Parker walked away.

Ivy stood at the doorway, staring at her sister's pale form through the glass as tears spilled down her cheeks.

She had believed that with enough money for chemotherapy, everything would be fine.

She hadn't realized that the treatment itself would trigger so many terrifying complications, each one capable of claiming Gemma's life.
