Willa sighed helplessly and typed: [It means he's embarrassed. Anyone would be embarrassed if they were mistaken for a baby's father.]
Sophie refused to drop it and opened her mouth to say more, but Corbin finally spoke up, his voice frosty. "Sophie, if you say one more word, I'll have Mom set you up on blind dates every single day."
At that, Sophie instantly snapped her mouth shut, though the corners of her lips remained turned up. She couldn't hide the amusement dancing in her eyes.
She winked playfully at Willa and mouthed silently, "He's guilty."
Willa deliberately looked away, pretending not to see, but her gaze inadvertently fell on Corbin's face. A sudden thought popped into her head.
Hesitating for a moment, she grabbed her phone, typed out a message, and handed it to Corbin, looking a little bashful.
[Mr. Sommers, could you do me a favor? Please don't rush to deny that this baby is yours to the public. Is that okay?]
Corbin froze. "Why?"
[I don't want anyone to know the baby is Randal's. If the Yates family finds out, they will definitely try to snatch the child away, and I can't fight them. I just want to have my baby safely and live a peaceful life. Please.]
Corbin took the phone, his brow furrowing slightly as if he were seriously weighing the matter.
Sophie leaned over to peek at the screen. She opened her mouth but, for once, had the tact not to interrupt.
A long silence fell over the hospital room. Willa gradually began to regret her abrupt request and was just reaching out to take her phone back when Corbin suddenly spoke.
"Alright, I promise you. I'll arrange for you to go to Northern Europe. I have people there who can take care of you, and the Yates family won't be able to find you."
Just as she was about to decline, Sophie quickly chimed in. "Just listen to Corbin. It's safer to go abroad, and I'll fly over to visit you whenever I have time."
After a long moment of thought, Willa nodded, accepting their kindness.
"Willa, you're finally out," Naomi said urgently. "I've been waiting for you for so long. You wouldn't answer my calls, so I had to come wait for you at the hospital."
Willa forcefully pulled her arm free from Naomi's grasp and took a step back.
Sophie stepped forward, shielding her and glaring warily at Naomi. "What are you doing? Keep your hands to yourself."
Ignoring Sophie entirely, Naomi bypassed her and crowded Willa again.
"Willa, please, I'm begging you. Write a letter of forgiveness for Stella. She's only twenty-one; she can't go to prison. If she goes to jail, her life will be ruined."
Willa looked at the face that was so familiar yet so foreign, her heart turning to ice.
This woman was her biological mother, yet every word out of her mouth felt like a knife to her chest.
