Bound by the Past, Locked by the Heart novel Chapter 250

Willa remained silent.

She already knew the answer. Scarlett was meticulous; she never left loose ends.

Seeing Willa's lack of reaction, Sophie looked utterly bewildered. "You're not even a little surprised?"

Willa shook her head. "There's nothing to be surprised about. If she were that easy to track down, she wouldn't be Scarlett."

Sophie scoffed. "That bitch really covers her tracks. So damn ruthless."

She raised an eyebrow. "I might not be able to trace it, but Randal absolutely has the resources to figure it out. Why isn't he stepping up to handle this? He's just going to sit back and watch you get crucified online?"

Willa couldn't reveal the true extent of Randal's corporate espionage, so she offered a vague excuse. "He can't afford to declare war on Scarlett right now. That's why she's acting with total impunity."

Hearing that, Sophie's face flushed bright red with fury.

"So he's just abandoning you? You're literally carrying his child! You're being slaughtered on the internet, and he hasn't issued a single statement or lifted a finger to defend you?"

Willa looked down, her silence screaming volumes.

Sophie was right. Randal had taken the posts down behind the scenes, but not once had he publicly defended her or shielded her from the fallout.

Even though she knew he had his own complex machinations, pretending she wasn't devastated by his silence would be a lie.

However, her gut told her this situation was far more sinister than she realized, and it wasn't going to blow over easily.

"He probably... has his hands tied."

"Hands tied?" Sophie let out a blistering, sarcastic laugh. "Tied by what? The fear of offending the Sterling family? The fear of losing his precious billions?"

Willa didn't want to dwell on it. She looked up at her best friend. "Sophie, forget about him. I'm going to be moving out of here in a few days. I'm going to need your help finding a place to stay."

Willa averted her gaze, her heart hammering with guilt.

She couldn't tell Sophie that the Yates family was plotting to take her baby, and she certainly couldn't confess that she had claimed Corbin was the father just to keep her child safe.

"No," Willa forced a weak, unconvincing smile, trying to mask her panic. "It's just... I'm feeling a little heartbroken."

Sophie was practically buzzing with suspicion, but she let it slide.

She reached over and affectionately ruffled Willa's hair, sighing softly. "You're still hung up on that bastard? What's so great about him? I mean, sure, he's incredibly handsome and disgustingly rich, and he treated you... decently... fine, I admit he's a catch."

"But he's literally marrying someone else. Why are you still lingering here? So you can get a front-row seat to him and Scarlett playing house?"

Willa offered a bitter, self-deprecating smile. "Sophie, you really know how to rub salt in a wound."
