Quentin's expression remained dark as he watched Raelynn walk away.
Suddenly, only the three of them were left in the hall.
Sierra couldn't snap out of her daze for a long time.
She never could have imagined that today, which was supposed to end with Raelynn's wedding being canceled, her being rejected, and drowning in public scorn, would violently pivot to ruin her own life instead.
Those baseless accusations were somehow imbued with an undeniable, invisible power that forced everyone to believe them.
"Quentin, this is all just speculation. Mr. Croix is only retaliating because Sierra accidentally ruined his engagement with Ms. Davenport. You know what kind of character Sierra has."
Sylvia's expression was a bit stiff, but she quickly smoothed it out, softening her voice as she walked to Quentin's side.
She didn't cry or throw a tantrum.
Nor did she demand Quentin do anything.
Sierra finally snapped back to reality, her eyes red. "Dad, I grew up hearing you talk about Raelynn, wishing she would come home. I understand how you feel. I've always hoped for this day too. Mr. Croix is just an outsider making empty claims. Are you really going to doubt me too?"
Quentin's face was rigid.
"I was too busy with work and neglected your upbringing." His tone was freezing. "The Yves family never taught a well-bred lady to go knocking on her brother-in-law's door, trying to twist the facts and force her former brother-in-law to take responsibility for her innocence."
Sierra shook her head, crying. "Dad, I was just so terrified. With so many people watching, even if nothing happened, people would still talk. I'm a girl. Others might not care about my reputation, but I have to."
"Enough!"
Quentin hadn't expected Sierra to still be defending her actions.
Disappointment and heavy sorrow flashed through his eyes. "Whether you did those things or not, the Yves family can no longer tolerate you. Raelynn is coming home, and I won't allow anyone to harbor ulterior motives against her."
Quentin turned to look at Sylvia.

Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
