Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 702

Seeing that she was completely out of patience, Sebastian closed his eyes and finally offered a sentence that sounded somewhat human.

Raelynn stopped dead in her tracks.

Ignoring whatever expression was currently on her face, Sebastian kept his eyes shut, likely battling the relentless waves of pain. "If something happened to Lily, I don't doubt you would have done something extreme. She's your entire life."

Raelynn asked instinctively, "And?"

He opened his eyes again, his tone carrying a brutal self-awareness. "I figured you must hate me to the core. If I died, you'd be thrilled. If I lived... well, how do you feel right now?"

"It's not that deep," Raelynn replied evenly. "You need to love someone to hate them. Do you really think either of us still has that kind of emotional investment? Whatever happens to you has absolutely zero impact on my life."

But Raelynn *had* hated him once.

She had hated his coldness, hated that he never loved her, hated that he never gave her a shred of hope.

From the very beginning, he had ensured she never poured her dependence or expectations into him.

And because of that...

When they finally divorced, she had been able to rebuild herself quickly, rather than feeling like half her soul had been ripped away. It was why she could look at him now, broken in a hospital bed, and feel entirely numb to it.

She actually owed that to Sebastian's absolute, unwavering lack of love for her over those seven years. He had shown her, time and time again, that he wasn't worth it. He had given her the resolve to pull herself out of the wreckage and build a better life.

Honestly, she had to thank him for his absolute ruthlessness.

It was the reason she didn't harbor a single delusion or lingering hope, allowing her to walk away without ever looking back.

Sebastian didn't seem the least bit bothered by her words.

"That's for the best," he said mildly.

That simple phrase—'that's for the best'—was his way of expressing relief that she wouldn't cling to him.

"You don't need to worry," she shot back immediately. "I have zero interest in haunting your life."

Sebastian didn't respond to that.

Realizing he wasn't going to suddenly drop a bomb about Lily's parentage, Raelynn slowly pushed her anxiety aside.

"But the fact remains that you saved my daughter's life, and you got severely injured doing it. I know a debt like this isn't easily wiped clean. Name your price. I'll repay the favor."

He looked at her. "What could a man like me possibly lack that you could give?"

Even if Lily was biologically his, the lines had been drawn. To the rest of the world, Lily was her and Ian's child. No matter how you looked at it, Sebastian had stepped way out of line to play the hero.

To everyone else, he was simply their savior.

She wasn't going to let her emotions get the better of her and accidentally expose the truth.

After all, she knew firsthand what a twisted family dynamic looked like. Neither of her own so-called fathers had ever loved her enough to risk their lives for her.

Taking a deep breath, she nodded. "Deal."

Seeing her reluctance, Sebastian simply ignored it and asked out of nowhere, "Do you know what would have happened today if this little incident hadn't occurred?"

"What?"

He leisurely closed his eyes, his tone perfectly flat. "Ian Hudson was planning to propose to you. Obviously, plans changed. Clearly, the universe doesn't think you two are meant to be."

He wasn't trying to hide his knowledge at all.

He was deliberately laying it out, clear as day.
