Betrayed by the Father Reborn in His Rival's Arms novel Chapter 164

Madeline almost laughed. Even now, Lucius still delusionally believed she had come all this way just to target Liliana, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

She was genuinely here for a clean break.

Arthur's booming voice echoed through the room. "You worthless bastard! How dare you blame Madeline? If you could keep it in your pants, none of this would have happened! You've completely dragged my reputation through the mud!"

Lucius flinched. Shooting Madeline a look of bitter resentment, he turned to Arthur. "Grandpa, I swear it's a misunderstanding. Madeline has it all wrong. The pregnancy was an accident. Liliana drugged me. She said she was applying medicine to my wounds, but it was spiked with an aphrodisiac. I haven't seen or touched her since that day. You can check my bank accounts—I haven't transferred a single dime to her in months! I regret it!"

"You stupid animal! If you weren't so pathetic, could a woman have manipulated you like that? How is Madeline supposed to live like this? You commit a disgusting act like this, and you think a simple explanation fixes it?"

Despite his harsh words, Arthur was clearly trying to salvage the situation. "Madeline, I know you're a good girl, and it's not that I don't want to keep my promise. But if what Lucius is saying is true, maybe there really is a misunderstanding between you two."

Madeline didn't budge. "Arthur, we are way past misunderstandings. Just give your approval today."

Lucius's voice violently spiked. "I will not agree to a divorce! I refuse! Even if Grandpa agrees, I won't sign it!"

Lucius had always been terrified of Arthur, but this time, he raised his voice in open defiance.

Millicent hadn't gone far. Standing in the adjacent room, she stomped her foot in frustration when she heard Lucius's stubborn refusal.

She despised Madeline, and that hatred had only festered after Madeline broke her leg.

Millicent constantly poisoned Arthur's ear, insisting that Madeline came from a lowly background and would never properly fulfill her duties as a Whitman wife after the scandal. She claimed the household would never know peace, so they might as well kick her out. Of course, she didn't want the mistress moving in either—another homewrecker was equally useless. Her plan was to find an even more powerful, ruthless woman from a prominent family to tame Lucius, remarry him, and clean up the mess once and for all.

After the disastrous events at his 80th birthday banquet, Arthur had actually entertained the thought.

His main concern was that Lucius shared Alastair's exact DNA. Lucius was prone to sleeping around, and even if he managed to behave for a month, he'd never last half a year. With Madeline's unyielding personality, another explosive fight was inevitable.
