Maloney froze, instinctively glancing toward the doorway.
Quentin swallowed hard and forced himself to continue. “The matriarch has given the order. They are going to drag Ms. Sloan back, no matter what it takes.”
Maloney’s eyes darkened. “What exactly happened?”
Quentin explained, “Word is, Jarred locked Ms. Sloan up at Sterling Manor. He tried to force Ms. Sloan to apologize to the matriarch, and had Ms. Carlyle 'teach' Ms. Sloan how to earn the matriarch's forgiveness.
He told her she’d never leave the estate if she didn't comply. She refused and set a fire.”
Maloney was already aware of the incident where Sienna supposedly broke their grandmother’s cane.
He could guess why Jarred had locked her up, but this…
Quentin continued, “Also, I just got an alert. Jarred’s plane lands in an hour…”
Before he could finish, another frantic knock echoed through the room. One of Maloney’s men rushed in. “Sir, we have a problem! Ms. Sloan was just taken!”
Maloney’s eyes turned entirely predatory. “Who dares pull a stunt like this on my turf?”
He was already storming toward the exit.
The second he pushed the doors open, he caught sight of a black sedan speeding away from the hospital entrance.
The familiar family crest on the bumper was unmistakable.
A layer of absolute frost settled over Maloney’s refined features.
“That’s the estate’s security detail!” Quentin gasped. “Sir, what do we do?”
Maloney remained stoic. If his grandmother’s men had moved this fast without him catching wind of it, there was no way Jarred knew either.
“Notify Jarred,” he ordered.
The black van tore down the highway.
