Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 55

Luna tucked the blanket snugly around her. "I bought your favorite crab puffs and called you a dozen times, but you never picked up.

The hospital said you left early, and the precinct said you hadn't shown up. I was so frantic I almost filed a missing person's report."

Recalling the terrifying scene when she burst into the room, Luna still felt a lingering chill of fear.

"Thank God I got there in time, or they really would have beaten you to death."

Sienna didn't say a word, simply patting Luna's hand gently.

Seeing Sienna's sorrow-filled face, a surge of fury ignited in Luna's chest. She couldn't help but curse, "That bastard Jarred! His whole family is a pack of bloodsuckers.

You've been with the Sterlings for seven years, and have they ever treated you like a human being? If he had protected you even a little bit, would his grandmother dare to treat you like that?"

Leaning against the headboard, Sienna stared out at the pitch-black night beyond the window. Her voice was terribly soft. "Let's not talk about him. Just nine more days. I don't want any more complications."

Looking at her, Luna felt her heart ache so much she couldn't find the words.

After a long moment, she nodded vigorously. "You're right! Men only slow down our ability to make money! You've got the looks, the brains, the independence—why should you ever have to walk on eggshells for anyone?

A playboy like Jarred has nothing going for him except a handsome face! At best, he's just a trophy, a pretty decoration!

Once you're divorced, I'll instantly set you up with an eighteen-year-old college boy. Sunny, handsome, and obedient. A hundred times better than him!"

Sienna finally cracked a genuine smile.

After the IV finished, Luna drove Sienna home.

Exhausted from the harrowing night, Sienna washed up, collapsed onto her bed, and quickly drifted into a deep sleep.

The sky was barely turning gray when her phone's ringtone jolted her awake.

Rubbing her sleepy eyes, she blindly reached for her phone on the nightstand.
