Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 35

"Got too much money and nowhere to spend it?" Sienna said with a blank expression, lowering her head to continue bandaging him.

"I'm spending it on you." Jarred chuckled softly. "What else am I supposed to do with it?"

He always tossed out sweet nothings like they were second nature. In the past, her heart would race and she would be thrilled, but now, she only felt numb.

He was likely whispering these exact same words to Celeste, maybe with even more tenderness.

Her supposed special treatment meant absolutely nothing in his endless garden of women.

"How did you find this place?" she deflected, wanting to escape the sudden wave of intimacy.

Jarred's fingertips gently hooked a strand of her hair, an emotion she couldn't quite decipher surfacing in his eyes.

"Did you forget? I have a radar."

The word 'radar' instantly yanked her memory back to that summer.

They had just started dating. Over the summer break, Jarred had taken her on a trip to a neighboring country.

He stepped away for just a few minutes to buy her ice cream, and the massive crowd swallowed her up.

Stranded in a foreign land where she didn't speak the language, she stood in a sea of faces, unable to find him anywhere. She was so terrified that tears streamed down her face.

Just as she crouched on the sidewalk, completely lost, a pair of black leather shoes appeared in front of her.

She looked up to see Jarred, a thin layer of sweat on his forehead, his dark eyes locked onto her with a desperate, undisguised heartache.

She threw herself into his arms, sobbing and scolding him, telling him he almost lost her forever.

He held her tight, gently stroking her back as his soft kisses rained down on her hair, the tip of her nose, and her lips...

He had said, "I'll never lose you, Sienna. Even if you wander to the ends of the earth, I will always find you. Because I have a radar. A radar calibrated just for you."

Back then, the evening breeze was gentle, the crowd was bustling, and his embrace was so warm. She genuinely believed she was loved by the whole world.

But now, everything had changed.

Trapped in her memories, Sienna's chest ached with a suffocating sourness, and even her gaze softened.

The man holding her suddenly leaned in closer.
