When Qin Nuo returned with her men after cleaning up the mess, she saw that he was injured again and grew impatient. "How did you get hurt again?"
Li Chenlin snorted. "What was I supposed to do?"
Deep down, Qin Nuo was starting to look down on Li Chenlin. He was a Level 9 Beastman, yet his combat skills were so poor. How was he supposed to protect her in the future?
’As expected, a Level 10 like Lu Tingyan is a much better match for me.’
Qin Nuo waved her hand, annoyed. "Go back and have the butler give you some Crystal Stones to heal."
Crystal Stones were unique to the Qin Family. They were mined from the same cave where the Beast God Crystal Stone was sealed. Catalyzed by the energy of the Beast God Crystal Stone, they would form into special stones imbued with spiritual power.
Beastmen could absorb the energy within these Crystal Stones to raise their Spiritual Power Level.
In the days since Li Chenlin had been captured, he suffered a minor injury every three days and a major one every five. He had managed to scrounge a good number of Crystal Stones from the Qin Family, and he could faintly feel that he was about to break through to Level 10.
A soldier came jogging over. "Miss, we caught a villager hiding under a tree. He used his smart-device to record a video of your battle. What are your orders?"
Qin Nuo asked, "Has the video been checked? Did it capture my face?"
The soldier replied, "No, only a blurry silhouette."
A smile curved Qin Nuo’s lips. "Let him go. If he filmed it, he filmed it."
This was exactly what she wanted.
Her parents had recently spoken to her about this very matter.
It was only a matter of time before the Dark Power in the Abyss broke through its seal. The number of mutated beasts was growing, and this was the path the great Beast God was invisibly paving for her.
It was also the perfect opportunity for the Qin Family to re-emerge.
This was the perfect chance to build her reputation as the Goddess and pave the way for what was to come.
The soldier nodded and withdrew.
Before long, the video of Qin Nuo controlling the beasts to command the battle suddenly went viral, sparking a global debate.
The sense of crisis and panic that the mutated beasts had instilled in the Beastmen population subsided somewhat because of it.
Talk of the Qin Family’s return and the advent of the Beast God’s Goddess soon began to circulate online.
But no one expected this rumor to be pinned on Bai Su.
[The Goddess has to be Bai Su! She is the god of us females, saving our lives with her delicious food!]
[Holy shit, I think it’s Bai Su too. If it weren’t for her, we females would still be living in a daze. Wasn’t Bai Su the one who started the awakening of female consciousness?]
[Now that you mention it, it really does seem like it! She’s like a goddess who descended to earth, guiding us females and showing us the way!]
But many people held opposing views.
Because of the previous incident with Bai Su’s restaurant, a very clear gender divide had already appeared between males and females online.
[Can certain females please stop trying to pin every good thing on Bai Su and getting off on their own delusions?]
[I’m actually speechless. Everything good has to be Bai Su. Why don’t you just say Bai Su is the Creator God?]
[Read some history. The Qin Family has a glorious past. They’re a reclusive great clan, with authority that surpasses any nation! Bai Su is really punching above her weight here.]
[Could this be more of Bai Su’s marketing?]
[I think it’s possible. After all, didn’t she build her empire by marketing herself with tags like ’do-gooder,’ ’gourmet food,’ and ’healing’?]
Bai Su herself didn’t pay much attention to the news.
She was currently pouring all her energy into renovating and opening her new branch restaurant.
*
「Deep in the forest.」
Bai Su’s clone was being dragged by Lu Tingyan straight toward the Abyss.
Bai Su was exasperated. "Where on earth are you taking me?"
Lu Tingyan said, "To a safe place."
For days now, Bai Su had been following him, constantly moving from one place to another.
The number of mutated beasts from the Abyss was increasing, and so were the Qin family soldiers patrolling the forest near the Abyss.
Lu Tingyan had lost his memory. He didn’t trust anyone, approached no one, and wouldn’t let her get close to any other Beastman.
Bai Su’s hands were still tied with a rope, the other end of which was held in Lu Tingyan’s hand.
Ever since their night together in the cave, he had become even more vigilant. He was terrified she would get hurt, as wary as a stressed-out puppy.
Bai Su’s lips twitched. "The direction you’re taking me is toward the Abyss."
Lu Tingyan looked toward the Abyss. "I keep feeling like something there is calling to me."
Bai Su paused. "You have that feeling, too?"
Only after he had obediently and miserably changed back into a human did she stop.
’She was so rough with him, so why was she being so gentle with a strange soldier?’
’Don’t be afraid?’
’We don’t mean you any harm?’
’When had her voice ever been that syrupy?’
Lost in his own anger, Lu Tingyan didn’t realize he was glaring at the soldier, grinding his teeth, the characteristic low growl of a Wolf Beastman unconsciously rumbling in his throat.
It was a sound wolves and dogs usually made only when they felt threatened and were about to attack.
The soldier was already deathly pale and looked about to faint.
The overwhelming pressure of the male’s spiritual power crushed him like a mountain, making it hard to breathe.
In just a few moments, he was drenched in a cold sweat.
After trying to calm him down to no avail, Bai Su lost her patience.
She raised her hand, turned, and gave Lu Tingyan a big slap. "You, be quiet!"
Lu Tingyan was incredulous, angry, and wronged. "I wasn’t talking!"
Bai Su expertly covered his mouth. "You dare let another sound pop out of that throat of yours and see what happens."
Lu Tingyan trembled with rage, and a wolf’s characteristic whimper uncontrollably escaped his throat.
He earned another big slap.
Lu Tingyan was fuming. He glared furiously at the soldier on the ground, and after a long moment, he angrily turned his head, sat down hard nearby, his wolf tail and ears drooping, his chest heaving as he pathetically displayed his anger.
Seeing that he had finally quieted down, Bai Su turned back to soothe the soldier.
The soldier took in the faint scent of peach on the air. After confirming that Bai Su would let him go after she was done with her questions, he managed to stabilize his emotions. "You... you can ask, miss."
Lu Tingyan grew even angrier.
’Damn male. He was clearly playing weak to get Bai Su’s attention.’
’After they were done, he would find a hidden cave and lock Bai Su inside, never letting her come into contact with any outside males for the rest of her life!’
Hmph!
