Chapter 478
“What?” Her eyes widen.
“These letters,” I shake them. “This is Aeliana’s handwriting.”
“She stole them!” Seraphine blurts out. “She stole Aeliana’s letters to you, and forged them so you would
think she wrote them.”
I pause, my heart drops in my stomach and my gaze flickers between them before it settles on Audrey. No, Kingston.” She shakes her head, her tone nothing short of desperate now. “It’s not like that.” She tells me. “I promise. It isn’t.”
I look at the unfolded letter in my hand and skim through it, and it’s all so familiar. It’s things I had read in her letters. Audrey’s letters were deeper than any of the words that she has ever said to me. “What the fuck, Audrey?” I growl. “What is wrong with you?”
“I was keeping them for her, I-I” she begins to stutter. The lies can’t seem to come fast enough. She didn’t anticipate getting caught, not with this. Up until now, she has found a way to pin everything on Seraphine and claim it was untrue, but I’m staring at the proof. She had sent me the very same letters, but they had been written by Aeliana?
I’m questioning everything I know about her. Questioning who the hell I was about to marry.
Was it all just a game? The drunk hookup that birthed our so-called relationship…..the elders’ approval? Everything was crafted by her. I feel like I’ve been living in a simulation where she controlled our lives.
“You know me. I-”
“You are a deranged shewolf, that’s what you are!” Rowan hisses. “How dare you steal Aeliana’s letters and pass them off as your own?”
I reach for the other letters, half these envelopes are addressed to Aeliana, not just from me, but from Rowan, Maddox, and even Jaxton. “These are addressed to Aeliana. Why do you have these as well?” I demand.”
Audrey flinches, “I was protecting her.”
“Protecting her from what exactly?” I frown. “You drove her away from her best friends, and you claim you protected her?”
“Had you loved her? You would not have cared if she was actually an evil bitch,” she grits her teeth.” You’d have loved her all the same. You would have given everything for her. You would have chosen her, but no. You couldn’t help but play the fucking hero!” She snaps. “You love a helpless being, you love picking everyone’s trash because you think you have some golden touch that automatically makes everything okay,” she snarls, her nose curling with disgust. I’m too stunned by her switch to speak. “You do not, you’re normal, you’re just like every other stupid Alpha out there. You never deserved her, you never loved her either, you don’t love her still. You love how she makes you feel! You love how saintly loving the reject makes you. You will never be able to love her the right way.”
“And who are you to tell me how to love my mate?”
“My mate,” she says, her voice low and mocking. “My mate,” she repeats, trying to imitate me. “Oh fucking stop already! I am so sick of hearing you claim her at every turn like you’re the only one deserving.” She says, veins straining on her forehead. “Your bond is a fucking mistake, and because I care, I tried to fix that for her. She couldn’t handle seeing you with anyone else, so I gave her that.” She says, a twisted smile. “I made her strong,” she pouts. “It made her spread her wings. Is that not what a great love does?”
My hand moves before I can register it and I smack her across the face. “You’re crazy.”
She laughs. Pure absolute, maniacal laughter that has everyone stunned, and then she just stops, as if she turned it off. “I’m the most sane person in this fucking pack,” she snickers. “Aeliana should be thanking me, if not for me she’d never have met her potential, her love for you would still be holding her back. She would’ve been knocked up at fucking seventeen with your fucking babies, and spent the last eight years playing house for you and this damn pack.” She seethes. “Does she look like she wants to play house to you?” She frowns. “Nobody wants that pressure, she’s too soft for all this. She’s weak.” She tells me. “You keep staring at me like I’m in the wrong, but I did it all for her.”
