I watched her look at me, her eyes widening. She had forgotten where Bodhi was.

Following our instructions, a warrior from Rosetta's pack had slowly led Bodhi away, taking him back toward his car so he could get inside and reunite with Sawyer at the mansion.

Although it was a huge risk, Rosetta had planted a few of her men inside the mansion with Sawyer so they could look after Bodhi.

So far, Sawyer had not been rude or abusive toward him. He was dismissive, but that was better.

I sat calmly in a chair behind a beautiful wooden table. In front of me were two glasses. I had already filled one, while the other sat beside a jug containing the liquid I had mixed.

“My Baxter,” she cried again, walking toward me, unsure whether she was dreaming or if I was really sitting there in front of her.

“Come, have a seat with me, Mother,” I said as I got up.

Every step I took toward her reminded me of how much cruelty she had inflicted on me and my sister.

Someone had frightened her into believing that our lives would be destroyed if my sister died. Because of that fear, she had kept my sister imprisoned her entire life.

So when my sister finally received a signal from the outside, she placed all her trust in that stranger.
