"She wouldn't say, and Romy doesn't know either. She just told me to focus entirely on eliminating Licht tonight."

Fairfax rubbed his throbbing temples. "What kind of tactic do you think she'll use?"

Amos was stumped. "I have no idea. But based on how she's been operating lately, when she sets her mind to something, she plays dirty."

Fairfax's expression darkened. "Call Romy. Tell Starla we don't need her help."

"Are you going to make the call or not?" Fairfax demanded, slicing through the excuses.

Amos threw his hands up. "Fine, fine! I'm calling." It was infuriating to turn down such a strategic advantage, but he had to admit—if it were his wife offering to put herself in the crosshairs, he would have locked her in a room to keep her safe.

Reluctantly, Amos made the call.

When Romy delivered the refusal, Starla raised a perfectly sculpted brow. "He doesn't need it? Well, someone's feeling awfully brave."

Romy sighed, equally baffled as to why her boss would reject the perfect distraction.
