Just as Bernard stepped into the living room, the wails of Elwood paused his loosening tie mid-motion. His cool gaze swept over to the small figure leaning against the kitchen doorway, amused by the commotion.

“Damian.”

At the sound of Bernard’s voice, Damian stiffened, the laughter vanishing from his eyes as he turned to face the man shedding his blazer and handing it to the butler.

“Come here.” Bernard's voice was calm, yet it held a commanding edge that even the defiant Damian couldn't ignore. Reluctantly, he picked up his feet and walked over.

After handing off his tie to the butler, Bernard's gaze dropped, his thick lashes casting a shadow as he fixed his stare on the silent Damian before him, “Go apologize to Elwood.”

Feeling unjustly accused, Damian's lips twitched with rebellion. He remained silent, standing his ground as a silent protest against Bernard’s command.

“If you're set on standing there like a lawn ornament, go right ahead. But make one move, and you're doing the apology dance with Elwood.” Bernard's icy words forced Damian into a difficult spot. Damian's brows knotted as he glared at Bernard.

Bernard, with an air of elegance, didn't spare another glance at Damian as he swapped his shoes and ascended the staircase, leaving Damian fuming and clenching his tiny fists in indignation.

Elwood, who had intended to run crying to his mother, saw Damian being punished and stopped his tears. He cleaned the cheese on his face with his sleeve and ran to Damian, pressing his pudgy nose and pulling a face to laugh at him.

To Damian, Elwood was beyond foolish, but he had learned not to argue with a fool. He simply closed his eyes, ignoring him.

Because of Hailey’s presence, Bernard didn’t go see Eleanor. After bathing, he picked up his phone and reviewed the IQ test results Eleanor had sent him. He couldn't help but remember his own childhood.

He, too, was five when Blake Laurence had him tested. Initially, his scores were similar to Damian's but then climbed higher and higher. Damian was likely the same, though whether he would surpass Bernard's own intelligence remained to be seen.

High intelligence wasn't a bad thing, but Damian's character needed guidance. Otherwise, the overconfident genius could crumble at the first sign of someone smarter, potentially ruining his life.

Bernard hadn't planned on intervening with the children, hoping to devote his remaining time to Eleanor, but the situation required his attention. With a restless sigh, he set down his phone and headed downstairs...

Finding Damian still stubbornly standing his ground, Bernard remained silent for a few seconds before casually walking to the dining room. He poured himself a glass of water and sat down as if nothing was amiss.
